The Landshuter Höhenwanderweg and its many possibilities

The approximately 50 kilometer long main route of the Landshuter Höhenwanderweg is marked with green signs and leads with an estimated walking time of about 14 hours (and a total of 576 meters in altitude) from the Volksfestplatz in the village of Buch am Erlbach via Landshut to Hüttenkofen. From this hiking route, several circular trails branch off again, which are marked with blue signs and guarantee magnificent views of the Isar valley and the hilly landscape.

Ideal for preparation: The hiking map of the Landshuter Höhenweg

The network of very well developed hiking trails of the Landshuter Höhenweg comprises about 128 kilometers. It is suitable both for sporty day tours and for short leisurely family walks. One can choose the starting point freely, also combine the main trail with circular routes and put together the length of the tour oneself.
The free hiking map of the Landshut High Altitude Trail, which can be obtained from the Tourist-Info in the town hall, is highly recommended for planning excursions. It also provides information on how to get there by car or public transport.

Indispensable for every hike: the perfect refreshment break

The Landshut High Hiking Trail always offers nice places to stop for refreshments along the entire route: in Buch, Niedererlbach, Kronwinkl, Viecht, Tiefenbach, Landshut, Niederaichbach, Hüttenkofen. One can rest and strengthen oneself, enjoy the local cuisine and get into conversation with other hikers.

The Isar Valley, its historical significance and special sights

Exploration and settlement along the rivers has always been of great importance to our ancestors. On the Landshuter Höhenwanderweg, one can always experience the charm and the advantages of the landscape shaped by the Isar River. Suitable information boards offer the interested hiker interesting facts about nature, history and culture at suitable places. Partially, suitable audio contributions are made available with QR code. Among other things, one can also learn about the connection between the Landshuter Höhenwanderweg and the historic Landshut wedding in 1475.

The Landshuter Höhenweg repeatedly offers unique views of the Isar, which meanders gently through the landscape and contributes to the serenity of the mind.
The local history museum in Niederaichbach, on the other hand, shows the Isar as an important traffic route.
It provides information about the history of timber floating and the trade in wood, stones, wine, olive oil and other goods. In Landshut itself, absolute excursion highlights are the Basilica of St. Martin and the proud and imposing Trausnitz Castle, from which one can enjoy a unique view of the city of Landshut and its surrounding countryside. These few examples show the interesting diversity of the Landshut Höhenwanderweg.

Something very special for nature lovers and families: LA4 circular trail

A special tip for families is the LA4 circular hiking trail starting from „Bürgermeister-Zeiler-Straße in Landshut“. The approx. 7 km long route takes about 2 hours to walk through the nature reserve „Ehemaliger Standortübungsplatz Landshut mit Isarleite“. This unique nature reserve in the town of Landshut, which covers around 280 hectares, is known for its rich variety of wild bees and amphibian species. Hikers are presented with a truly varied landscape. The 149 meters in altitude can also be easily mastered with a baby carriage. There are also informative information boards, nature trails and refreshment stops along the way.

An exemplary excursion option: Trail B1- Niedererlbach

If one wants to take a closer look at the history of settlement in the Landshut area, this 45-minute walk (over 2.5 kilometers, without any significant incline) is highly recommended. It offers not only informative panels on this topic, but also a wonderful view over the Isar valley to Moosburg.
The starting point is the Bergweg parking lot in Niedererlbach.  From there one can walk along the Bergweg (display board „Celtic manor house“) to the hill (display board „Roman villa“), further to the Bachstraße (display board „Village history“) and to the Moosburger Straße (display boards „Roman highway“, „Roman mausoleum“, „Celtic burial ground“) and back to the starting point. This short hike offers breathtaking panoramic views and leads through enchanting forests, rolling hills and quiet meadows. The soothing sounds of rustling leaves, chirping birds and the expansive view of the Bavarian countryside enchant the hiker.
