Welcome to Landshut! This charming town in the heart of Bavaria looks back on an impressive history of over 800 years. Since its foundation in 1204, Landshut has been regarded as the first characteristic founding city of the Wittelsbach dynasty.

The Rise of the Wittelsbach Dynasty

To really understand the beginnings of Landshut, you have to look at the rise of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Duke Ludwig I of Bavaria laid the foundation stone for Landshut in 1204. As the power of the Wittelsbach dynasty grew, so did the importance of the town of Landshut, which developed into a central political and cultural center in Bavaria.
